Hot Counties Turn Red
By Danny Yadron
The fastest growing counties in the U.S. voted overwhelmingly Republican in last weeks U.S. House Elections, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of election results by county. Its the latest post-vote statistic that shows Democrats could have some long-term problems.
Voters backed GOP House Candidates in 44 of the 50 fastest growing counties of the U.S., based on a 2009 study by the U.S. Census Bureau. Counties that fall in more than one House district were counted as .....
The GOPs new hegemony in the South
The last time Republicans dominated the Southern political landscape as thoroughly as they do today, Union Troops occupied the region. Not since Reconstruction, when the Grand Old Party held sway in Dixie in the aftermath of the Civil War, have Republicans all but monopolized governmental power in the region.
While the GOP was strong in the South prior to the 2010 mid-term Elections, the November 2 Vote moved the Republican hegemony to a new level. Post-election, Republicans now hold ten gover...
America, You Ain't Seen Nothing, Yet!
Just last week, the GOP had one of its greatest nights ever: gains of 60 plus House Seats, new governorships in many large industrial States and an increase of 675 seats and counting in State Legislatures across the country. Republicans now have more House members than at any time since 1946 and the most State Legislators since 1928. The relative disappointment of a loss of a couple of hotly contested Senate seats is minor by comparison.
And yet, as Ronald Reagan would say, “You ain’t seen...

In other words, Obama will be a one termer…
Speaker Nancy Pelosi told Democratic leaders Wednesday afternoon that President Barack Obama has to be “perfect” to win a Second Term, several senior Democratic aides told Roll Call.
Pelosi told leaders on a Conference Call that Obama will have problems running for re-election because of the loss of governorships in Ohio, Pennsylvania and other states, several aides said. The soon-to-be-ex-Speaker also said House Democrats have many opport...

Democratic consultant Paul Begala noted that of the eight states that went from red to blue between 2004 and 2008 on the presidential level, Democrats won either the Governor’s race or a Senate race in just two of them — Nevada and Colorado — during the past two years. Combined, those two are likely to deliver just 15 Electoral Votes in 2012.
“If Obama holds the Kerry states and carries only the states in which Democrats prevailed in 20...

Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) said Monday he will challenge Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for the House minority Leadership position. “At this point, no one has come forward, no one in Leadership for a long time,” Shuler said. “It will be very tough. It is probably a race we can’t win. But we need a moderate voice in the Democratic Party.” ...

Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) has been asked by Majority Leader Harry Reid to head the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Politico reported Friday, citing a senior party source. On George W. Bush & his running mates lesbian daughter
It is, in large measure, because of George W. Bush that I started blogging. While I had been so incensed by his decision to back the Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA) in February 2004 that I wrote in Rudy Giuliani in the California primary and had, in March of that year, considered voting Libertarian in the fall election, I came around while following John Kerry’s campaign.
That Democrat seemed more interested in playing to Democratic critics of W and posturing for the media than in add...

Morning Jay: Electoral Review Part 2, The Northeast
Get alerts when there is a New article that might interest you. Today we continue our post-election review with an examination of the Northeast. Let’s start with a look at the region-wide House map. Here are the results at the end of 2008. Now, here are the results after last week. There are two qualities that jump out at me. First, there was very little movement in the New England states, where the Democrats generally held the line. This is also true for the gubernatorial races, where the...

Obama meets next week with Democratic and Republican congressional leaders. The Cuts enacted under his predecessor George W. Bush and expiring at the end of the year are expected to be a focus of their discussions. "My number-one priority is making sure that we make the Middle-class Tax Cuts pe...
Pelosi: Dont blame me for the midterm disaster
Nancy Pelosi attempted to set the record straight in an NPR interview today about the reason her House Caucus will be at least 60 members fewer in January. It’s not her fault, Pelosi insists. She’s just a Victim of the economic environment that, er, her Caucus spent nine months ignoring on their march to pass a bill that the majority of Americans didn’t want in the first place:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she has the “overwhelming support” of fellow Demo...
Republicans must deal with Social Security
Published: Nov. 12, 2010 at 5:23 PM WASHINGTON, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Democratic Strategists hope Republicans who campaigned on Fiscal Responsibility will trip over the third rail of U.S. politics, the Social Security program. The future House Speaker, Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, has supported changes like raising the Age to collect a full Social Security Pension, shaving payments and increasing the income subject to Social Security taxes. Now, he has to decide whether to back a plan by one...
Senator floats possible compromise on Bush-era tax cuts
As the clock ticks toward the expiration of the George W. Bush-era Tax Cuts at the stroke of midnight on Dec. 31, a Democratic senator has floated an idea to end the impasse between President Obama and congressional Republicans and avoid Tax Rates for most Americans going up the moment the big ball in Times Square goes down.
Sen. Mark Warner, a moderate from Virginia, proposed a Compromise in an opinion article in the Financial Times -- allow the top-level Cuts to expire, but offset the impact...
AFL-CIO calls for up-or-down vote on middle class tax cut
The AFL-CIO is getting behind the single best way for Democrats to extend Middle-income Tax Cuts to all Americans: have a vote.
One of the Most Powerful labor organizations in the country is throwing its weight behind a legislative strategy on the Bush Tax Cuts in which Democrats would hold a vote on just extending the Middle Class Tax Cuts permanently, without any vote on the high end ones.
And this route is completely doable in the House if it is offered under what's called suspension of the...
Weird: Only Plurality Of Poll Respondents Happy With Midterm Election Results
Given that Democrats suffered a route at the hands of the electorate at large, you’d expect a strong majority of poll respondents to like the outcome. After all, isn’t that what Elections are all about? There are three explanations for these results: A) Democrat voters didn’t vote but are unhappy with the results B) the sample for this poll skews liberal or C) voters were just casting their ballots against Democrats and aren’t necessarily fans of Republicans who won by de...

Texas Gov. Perry 'pleased' to head RGA
Texas Gov. Rick Perry would be "pleased" to take over the reins of the Republican Governors Association, according to his spokeswoman.
Speculation is mounting that Republican Governors will tap Perry to lead the RGA at their meeting next week in San Diego.
"Obviously the Governors have to vote," Katherine Cesinger, a spokeswoman for Perry, told The Ballot Box. "It's a decision that has to be made by them."
Still, she added, "the governor certainly would be pleased to be chairman."
Perry has a...
Michael Bennet won a Senate race he should have lost. Can Democrats copy his strategy?
Ken Buck's campaign for U.S. Senate from Colorado is already fading into trivia, another example of how the Tea Party screwed up a Republican win. It's being forgotten too quickly. On paper, Buck's loss to Sen. Michael Bennet made no sense.
