The Heat Was On In LA
LOS ANGELES (AP) The Los Angeles Lakers finally got their first look at the revamped Miami Heat, and the champs might be a little bit disturbed by what they saw. Chris Bosh had 24 points and 13 rebounds, Dwyane Wade added 18 points on a sore knee and the Heat won for the 14th time in 15 games ...

LeBron Has Triple-Double: Heat Pound Lakers 96-80
Los Angeles — LeBron James and Kobe Bryant ran their mouths while they jogged downcourt, not quite making eye contact during an unpleasant conversation in the closing minutes.
"Just asked him what he got for Christmas," James said.
Although the two superstars wouldn't reveal what angry words they exchanged, it wasn't tough to pick out a few statements Saturday. While Kobe and the Los Angeles Lakers got a disturbing first look at the Miami Heat, LeBron got the last word at Staples Center ...
Maybe This Time Someone Will Call Her On It
Let the lying begin:
When a proposal to encourage end-of-life planning touched off a political storm over “Death Panels,” Democrats dropped it from Legislation to overhaul the Health Care system. But the Obama Administration will achieve the same goal by Regulation, starting Jan. 1.
Before the grifters, charlatans, flim-flammers and political opportunists that make up the leadership of the Conservative Movement get a chance to crank out a million misleading words on this, here it ...
Scott Brown Disappointing
Senator Scott Brown's decision to buck his party leadership in recent days on the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell'' Military policy and on a nuclear arms treaty has set off a new wave of anger among some of the Activists who helped elect him - and renewed talk among Conservatives that he might face a primary challenge. Special day in D.C. for 'don't ask' activist
Call it a Bipartisan marriage. Tom Lang, a gay Activist and independent from Manchester-by-the-Sea, received his invitation to Wednesday’s signing of the Repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” from none other than Republican Sen. Scott Brown. Lang, an antiques dealer, riled Conservatives in 2005 when he started KnowThyNeighbor.org, where he published the names of people who signed a petition to ban Gay Marriage in Massachusetts. Lang, who took his husband to the event, l...

Politico: 'Murkowski goes rogue'
Politico has posted a long examination of what many have already been noticing: With recent votes during the Senate's Lame Duck session, Sen. Lisa Murkowski is not going with the Republican crowd and seems increasingly to vote against the wishes of her party's conservative leadership. Politico's analysis recaps the reasons Murkowski, who has never been a completely party-line voter, may be feeling free now to let more of her independent streak show, and then it looks ahead to how it may change t...
True Grit
The Saint Paul Pioneer Press‘ Bill Salisbury wrote a valedictory yesterday in the Pioneer Press about the career of outgoing Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty.
So far, anyway.
He left it to Pawlenty to sum up the crux of his legacy:
“This is a state that was on a spending binge for a long time with a liberal-leaning political culture that goes back decades or generations, and to try to change the direction of the state was a big undertaking. But I think we did that,” Pawlenty s...

Coalition support is down, poll shows
Rising Labour support has cut into the government's popularity. Other results from the poll, published earlier this month, put Labour support at a three-year high of 39%. Lib Dem support was at a five-year low of 13%. The Conservatives were on 37%, up one point from November. There is a mixed picture for Clegg and Cameron among their party's supporters in the poll, which was carried out before Christmas. A slim majority of Lib Dem voters still support the coalition. Among people who voted Lib De...

It partly rescinded the decision after an outcry from athletes and educat...
Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan shift Supreme Court debates to the left
WASHINGTON — For most of the last two decades, Supreme Court Conservatives led by Justice Antonin Scalia dominated the debates during oral arguments. They greeted advocates for liberal causes with sharp and sometimes caustic questions, putting them on the defensive from the opening minute. But the tenor of the debate has changed in recent months, now that President Barack Obama’s two appointees to the court, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, have joined the fray and re-energized the l...
How Republicans Fool Old Folks
I had this conversation with one of my in-laws after Christmas dinner when everyone was sort of tired and full and sluggish from all the sugar in the cookies. Me: "Fine. Slowing a bit as she gets older, but still active, fighting eyesight problems..." She: "You know, my mother had cataracts they wouldn't operate on because you know, she was under that [somewhat disgusted tone] "government Health Care plan." "When I think I need a test or treatment I speak up and say so and I get it, but no gove...

LeBron Wants The NBA To Go Back To The 80s
PHOENIX (AP) LeBron James thinks contraction could help the NBA. Calling the league “watered down,” James told reporters before Thursday night’s game in Phoenix that the NBA was more popular in the 1980s because there were fewer teams and thus more stars on the top squads. The two-time reigning league MVP has been widely criticized for joining Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, but defended his decision by saying the league would be more popular if there were more teams with ...

Who (What) Is Forescee?
The power of truth rests in our desire to seek its source — whether that truth is the reality of our current circumstances and our desires to understand why things are the way they are, or the truth in the reality that there is a better way, a better life, a better reality that can be attained if we choose to see that reality as one we desire to attain. Part of changing a reality is having the capacity to change it. Another part is having the desire to change it. We live in an age of chang...
Local Gay Marine Shakes Obama's Hand
Walker Burttschell got the chance to shake President Obama's hand just moments after he signed the landmark bill repealing "Don't Ask Don't Tell.
"It was surreal," said the Miami Beach Marine.
Burttschell, who is also an advocate for Gay Rights, was invited to the White House to watch the President sign into law the end of the policy prohibiting gays from serving openly. Burttschell was outed in 2003, just two years after joining the Military.

India's city-dwellers get angrier as society changes
With its religious retreats for meditation and Yoga, India has long been sought out by Western visitors eager to escape the rat race and return home better prepared to face life's challenges. Big cities like New Delhi and Mumbai, however, are becoming anything but havens of spiritual calm and inner peace for ordinary Indians, as the country's economy grows and more people leave the rural heartlands in search of prosperity.
