Inside, a special message from Joy appears (written out below): Joy's Christmas message; Good will toward Men and Women and Muslims and Jews and Catholics and Atheists (not agnostics - too wishy washy) and Mama Grizzlies and Democrats and Republicans and Tea Partiers and One of the Kardashian gi...
Joy Behar's Christmas Card Features Her Hugging Bill O'Reilly
Calling Dr. Orwell: WaPo Tries to Help ACLU Define Abortion, Contraception as 'Reproductive Care' Was Ed Schultz Slamming 'No Labels' Group - or Joe Scarborough? Joy Behar, ever the comedienne, sent family and friends a Christmas Card this year featuring a Photoshopped picture of her hugging Fox News's Bill O'Reilly. How touching. Of course, Behar was likely making light of the October 14 installment of "The View" when Whoopi Goldberg and she stormed off t...
Stranger Than Fiction: Tony Perkins' Christmas Card
For a few quiet days, Christians everywhere can humbly reflect on the greatest miracle in the history of mankind . In no other religion does the Creator of the universe come down to earth and live among us, His own creatures.
Huh? Perkins ignores a lot of religions here. Of course, he's never been one to quote scholars accurately. In ancient times there were over twenty dying-and-rising gods to which people prayed, several having virgin births! His revisionist historian, David Barton, ...
Last minute Christmas card? There's an app for that!
(GigaOM.com) -- Realizing there’s no chance of getting your traditional paper-based holiday card out this year, your only recourse is to explore electronic options. You may find just what you are looking for in one of the following three iOS (AAPL) app-based solutions. A word of caution: Some of the e-card solutions utilize a server-side service to send the cards. I’ve noticed some of these solutions ended up in recipients’ spam folders, so if you’re not sure whether the ...

A Government that isnt afraid of faith: Alleluia!
King's College choristers proceed towards chapel on Thursday (Photo: PA)
Yesterday, along with the rest of the country, most of the Cabinet went to church. They sang carols, took communion and doubtless stood around afterwards at the porch making hearty conversation in the freezing cold.
This is nothing new. All governments have paid lip service to religion. The difference is that David Cameron’s really means it. Not all of its members, perhaps - Nick Clegg, for example, is an avowed a...

Christmas weekend violence kills 38 in Nigeria
MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — Dozens of armed men attacked the church on Christmas Eve, dragging the pastor out of his home and shooting him to death. Two young men from the choir who were rehearsing for a late-night carol service also were slain. The group of about 30 attackers armed with guns and knives also killed two people who were passing by Victory Baptist Church. The assailants only left after setting the church and pastor’s house ablaze. Danjuma Akawu, the church’s secretary, m...

A decline in anti-semitism in America
Posted by Paul at 9:58 PM
Harvard sociology Professor Robert Putnam has concluded that Anti-Semitism in the United States is at an all-time low. He bases this view in part on a survey in which a cross-section of 3,000 Americans rated Judaism as the most popular religion (I assume respondents weren't allowed to name their own religion). He also finds that incidents reflecting Anti-Semitism are down from what they were in the past.
However, Abe Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League and Rabbi Marvi...
LeBron has triple-double, Heat rout Lakers
LOS ANGELES (AP) — LeBron James had 27 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists while hitting a season-high five 3-pointers, and the Miami Heat thrived on the holiday stage in a 96-80 victory over Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday. Chris Bosh had 24 points and 13 rebounds, and Dwyane Wade added 18 points on a sore knee for the Heat, who won for the 14th time in 15 games while flustering the defending champions into a terrible offensive performance. Although both teams called thi...
Christmas surprise: Knicks win one with defense
NEW YORK (AP) — Amare Stoudemire and Raymond Felton each scored 20 points, and the New York Knicks limited the Chicago Bulls to two baskets in the first 10 minutes of the fourth quarter, pulling away for a 103-95 victory Saturday. Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari added 15 apiece for the Knicks, the NBA’s highest-scoring team but 28th in defense. Yet they didn’t allow a field goal for more than 8 minutes after the game was tied in the opening minutes of the final period. Wea...
Magics Stan Van Gundy no Scrooge this Christmas
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Magic coach Stan Van Gundy has gone from being a Scrooge about playing on Christmas to perhaps spreading a little too much holiday cheer. Van Gundy sarcastically suggested Saturday that the NBA go from five to 10 games on Christmas. He joked the league should start games at midnight “and play them all through the day so there’s not a minute of Christmas Day where there’s not an NBA game on TV” because “the NBA is Christmas.” Orlando ...
Dunta Robinson no longer corners market on picks
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Dunta Robinson has played 22 games since his last interception. The seventh-year cornerback starts on the right side of Atlanta’s defense. He has watched left cornerback Brent Grimes pick off five passes to share the team interception lead with strong safety William Moore. Opponents only occasionally targeted Robinson during the first three months of the season. They focused instead on Grimes. Grimes is a former undrafted Free Agent and Practice Squad playe...
Hawaii beats MSU 68-57 in 1st game since fight
HONOLULU (AP) — Zane Johnson had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead Hawaii over short-handed Mississippi State 68-57 in the fifth-place game of the Diamond Head Classic on Saturday, the first game for the Bulldogs since they suspended two players for fighting in the stands. The Rainbow Warriors (9-3) controlled the inside and the game with Bulldogs’ top big men Renardo Sidney and Elgin Bailey suspended indefinitely. Sidney and Elgin were involved in a fistfight after the Bulldogs...
Florida State upsets No. 15 Baylor 68-61
HONOLULU (AP) — Derwin Kitchen scored 19 points and Chris Singleton added 17 and 10 rebounds in Florida State’s 68-61 victory Saturday over No. 15 Baylor in the third-place game of the Diamond Head Classic. Bernard James had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Seminoles (11-3), who recorded their first win over a ranked team this season. It was a disappointing trip for the Bears (8-3), who dropped two straight in Hawaii and three this week after reaching No. 9, the highest ranking in s...
Porter, Stephens-Howling inactive against Cowboys
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals are without starting outside Linebacker Joey Porter and kick returner LaRod Stephens-Howlings for Saturday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Porter has been sidelined with a triceps injury from last Sunday’s loss at Carolina. Stephens-Howling, a rookie who also plays on the kickoff and punt teams and sees some action at running back, has been nursing a Hamstring Injury. Dallas wide receiver Roy Williams had been listed as ques...
Merry Christmas, southern Thailand! Youre getting Sharia!
And that, of course, is what you have always wanted. But how long will it before you start to demand it in the rest of Thailand as well? "Thaworn sees Sharia law as way forward," from the Bangkok Post, December 25 (thanks to Weavo):
The introduction of Sharia law to the southernmost provinces has taken another step forward, with Deputy Interior Minister Thaworn Senneam saying it could help quell the insurgent violence.
He is also pledging to speed up work on a bill introducing a Sharia court,...

Meaning of Christmas found in relationships
I tend to side with those who worry about the decline in religious knowledge, particularly among believers. It seems like you ought to know why you believe and be able to explain it.
But this focus on religious knowledge assumes that we learn about God only through the mind, doctrines and even Scriptures. I don’t know about you, but life’s curves have informed my religious views at least as much. What’s more, they often challenge my ability to string together a consistent theo...
"Take Heaven, Take Peace, Take Joy"
Christmas always recalls Eric Sevareid, one of the 20th century's best Journalists and a writer with gifts far beyond reporting the news. I published an essay of his twice in different decades in different magazines.
Herewith, excerpts:
"Christmas offers us peace in one hand but in the other it carries a sword. The peace it offers is the love we felt in childhood and may still feel again if we have lived our lives as we were instructed in our early days. The sword is our conscience, glittering ...

Ghosts of Christmas Past
A Mudville Christmas special rerun, this from December, 2003, our Christmas Card to you. And in young Greyhawk's world nothing made Christmas a more tangible reality than the annual arrival of the Sears Christmas catalog. Once you could flip those pages you could really start to plan your Christmas in earnest. You knew just what toys you wanted, just by looking at those flat, two- dimensional images. In your minds eye, of course, you were already playing with them. I was never a greedy kid; I r...
Think about giving the gift of time, and yourself, this Christmas
Here’s something I would like you all to consider on this Christmas Eve, as you put the finishing touches on your plans for the holidays tonight and tomorrow. As you write out the Gift Cards that will go on all the fancy things you have lovingly wrapped, think about adding one extra line or two to give a very personal, special gift to someone you love. Write it however you like. Pick whatever charitable cause you want. Heck, do an hour of phone banking for Governor Palin or canvassin...
Hark! The Delegate Sings!
Christmas carols are timeless. Christmas Cards aren't. Just ask Del. John A. Cosgrove, R-Chesapeake, who still gets comments on his holiday crooning years after cutting a Christmas CD. A few years back, Cosgrove decided he'd rather not send out Christmas cards. "Everyone sends out Christmas cards," he said. "Sometimes they are not even signed." Then they get thrown out. So Cosgrove decided on a more personal and lasting expression of Christmas Spirit to send to 20,000 of his closest friends and ...
Happy Holidays!
It came yesterday afternoon. Not the semi-crass plea for cash that Rep. Charlie Rangel included in his Christmas Card. Nor the foreshadowing of non-giving Christmases yet to come that Gov.-elect Andrew Cuomo put in his.
This was just straight up good cheer from a man without even a puppy in the political arena: Rick Lazio.
“WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT AND SEND OUR HEARTFELT WISHES FOR A Holiday Season OF LOVE, FRIENDSHIP AND COMPASSION, AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE NEW YEAR!̶...
