Neighbor: Loughner's parents in shock
TUCSON, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- The parents of a Tucson man accused of killing six people and wounding 14 others are in deep shock and have secluded themselves in their home, a neighbor said. Randy and Amy Loughner returned home from grocery shopping Saturday to learn their only child, Jared Lee Loughner, 22, had been arrested for the Shooting Spree at a political event for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday. Neighbor Wayne Smith told the newspaper he broke the new...

Call it what it was: An Act of Domestic Terrorism
Good editorial cartoons rip the heart from the moment and always piss people off. … But even some Republicans sympathetic to Ms. Palin suggested that she needed to find a more substantive and nuanced means of addressing the criticism to avert any risk to her political standing and to maintain control of her political narrative. … But other Republicans said that if she was serious about becoming president, the shootings in Tucson might require Ms. Palin to step out of the political co...
Arizona gunman in court as Obama leads mourning
The man accused of trying to assassinate a congresswoman in an Arizona Shooting Spree that left six dead appeared in court Monday but said nothing to shed light on his motive. President Barack Obama led the Americans in a somber minute of silence to honor the 20 people gunned down in Tucson -- where he will attend a memorial service on Wednesday, the White House announced. Flags were at half-staff at the Capitol in Washington, where hundreds of aides and lawmakers crammed the storied steps of Co...
Poll: Despite Left's Lust to Pin Blame on Right, Only 32% Believe AZ Shootings Were Politically Motivated
After a 48-hour orgy of venom and hatred directed at the right in the wake of the massacre in Arizona Saturday, a CBS poll reveals only 32% of Americans actually believe the ludicrous accusations. This suggests a couple of possibilities: Either the next poll will show 100 of Americans accept the truth or the media and kook left will double down with the wild conjecture. Sadly, I think it's too late for these people to regain any credibility, so I learn toward the latter.Nearly six in 10 American...
FBI shows Palin had nothing to do with it
Attention liberals, if you mentioned Sarah Palin in any commentary over the weekend or today about the shooting in Arizona, you owe her an Apology.
You are wring.
Plain and simple.
No ifs, ands, or buts.
Political Rhetoric and hyperbole had nothing to do with this national tragedy.
Obsession did.
And that obsession began long before Sarah Palin was selected as a vice Presidential Candidate.
From the Wall Street Journal:
TUCSON, Ariz. — Accused gunman Jared Lee Loughner appeared to have been ...
The left stoops to new low with Arizona shooting
Despite the fact that the alleged shooter in Saturday’s massacre in Tucson appears to have no particular Party Affiliation, and police have found the Communist Manifesto and some sort of crude alter complete with skull and candles in Jared Loughner’s backyard…the leftwing media continues to blame this horrific event on the likes of Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh. The liberal blame game began shortly after Loughner was taken into Custody, with Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik&...
Boehner: Shootings wont sway GOP agenda
House Speaker John Boehner says that the shooting of an Arizona congresswoman won’t stop representatives in Washington from their duties. In a brief statement Sunday morning, the newly sworn speaker said flags on the House side of the Capitol in Washington will be flown at half staff to honor Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ slain aide, Gabe Zimmerman. Thirty-year-old Zimmerman was among six killed Saturday in a Tucson, Ariz., shooting rampage that left the Democratic congresswoman among 13 ...
One wonders what we will learn from these senseless shootings
The moment of silence came and went Monday, and I tried to set aside my own anger and heed President Barack Obama's call "for us to come together as a nation in prayer or reflection, keeping the Victims and their families closely at heart." The quiet passed, and I was revisited by the uneasy sense we are unlikely to learn anything from Saturday's tragedy in Tucson. Is the lesson of the deadly shooting destined to be buried with the dead in a country that day by day watches its ability to reason ...
Loughners Family May Break Silence
The Wall Street Journal reports:
The father of shooting suspect Jared Lee Loughner has prepared and may release a public statement, according to a neighbor who met with Mr. Loughner’s parents Monday.
Randy and Amy Loughner disappeared from view shortly after the shootings, and a statement would be the family’s first public comments since the attack.
Even in normal times, many on his block describe the elder Mr. Loughner as a reclusive man who had little time for neighborhood niceti...

Neighbour broke news of killing rampage
TUCSON: The parents of Jared Loughner were huddled in seclusion in their Tucson home on Monday night, his father crying and his mother so shaken she could not get out of bed, neighbours said. As the sun was beginning to set, Randy Loughner called his neighbour, a retired truck driver, Wayne Smith, 70, to ask him to get their mail. Mr Smith, who is not particularly close to the Loughners, collected it and was invited inside. ''They're in there now,'' Mr Smith told reporters. ''They're both in the...
Most Feel Rhetoric Unrelated to Shooting
A new CBS News poll finds 57% of Americans say the country's heated political Rhetoric is not to blame for the Tucson shooting rampage that left six dead and critically wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ).
However, Republicans were more likely to feel the two were unrelated -- 69% said Rhetoric was not to blame; 19% said it played a part. Democrats were more split on the issue -- 49% saw no connection; 42% said there was.

What a Debt Default Would Mean: Ezra Klein in the Washington Post

What a Debt default would mean
by Ezra Klein
Washington Post, January 7, 2011
The letter Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner sent to Congress on the Debt ceiling is worth reading in full, as it does a nice job describing a danger that I’m not sure most people fully appreciate. My sense is that the mental model most people have of defaulting on the Debt ceiling looks something like shutting down the government. But that̵...
What respectable liberalism looks like
Posted by Paul at 7:39 PM
The Washington Post editorial board parts company with the general run of liberal commentary about the Tucson Shooting Spree by eschewing attempts to blame a madman's actions on "a vitriolic political culture laced with violent metaphors. . . ." The Post notes:
Politicians should choose their words with care and keep debate civil, but it seems an unsupported leap to blame either the political climate or any particular individual or group for inciting the gunman. The su...
Private guards at National Archives not trained for emergencies, watchdog says
Source: The Washington Post
Private security officers who guard the headquarters of the National Archives are not properly trained to respond to threats to visitors, the staff or the holdings, a report by the agency's Watchdog reveals.
Without a more robust system of testing and drills for the guards, the Archives "has no assurance officers are proficient enough with their weapons" to respond to an attack, the agency's Inspector General said in an emergency memo to top Archives officials.
"We la...
Libelous Agitprop From The Washington Post

While the chattering class is on the subject of vitriol...
The image above, attributed to Jeff Danziger ([email protected]), was published by the Washington Post as part of a series of editorial cartoons featuring reactions to the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
The Danziger cartoon was featured without criticism or commentary, along with six other cartoons, most of which were infinitely more thoughtful, appropriate or amusing.

WaPo: Loughner was an Independent, Didn't Vote In Midterms Left: Dammit, Cause We Photoshopped His Registration as GOP
Addendum to Howie's post, just for reiteration, and to note that a lot of leftwingers are still holding this to be true. Even as that noted right-wing rag the Washington Post throws a little cold water on their Hoax.
And the first time they did it, they misspelled Tucson as "Tuscon." Twice. Genius in action - they can't even fake the truth accurately:
When somebody noted this, another "correct" version appeared and began to circulate on leftwing blogs anyway - per their desire to want it to be...
Loughner calm in taxi ride to the scene
Jared Loughner ... an only child, worshipped by his father. Photo: Reuters TUCSON: Jared Loughner wanted change from a $US20 note that he used to pay for a taxi ride to the Safeway store where the shootings occurred, the manager of the taxi company said. His demeanour was so unremarkable that the driver thought nothing of walking into the store with Mr Loughner to get change, and did not know that a shooting rampage occurred at the scene until many hours later. ''No red flags went up,'' said Joe...
Media Knew Killer Probably Wasnt Politically Motivated
Ben Johnson, FloydReports.com
The Left has gone out of its way to blame Saturday’s tragic shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords on anyone to the Right of the Mensheviks. Among the first to pile on the blood Libel was New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, who pinned the shooting on an alleged conservative “climate of hate.” Most of us countered that the murderer, Jared Lee Loughner, clearly seemed mentally ill, addicted to mind-altering drugs, or perhaps the Victim of ...
Wonderful: Media Hack Now Lists Ann Coulter as Suspect in AZ Massacre
Despite a shred of evidence and a poll now showing most Americans disagree with this insanity, it appears evident the insane left will continue to pursue this lunacy, regurgitating decades-old sarcastic quotes from Ann Coulter. She's also helpfully portrayed with ringleaders Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck.Enough! We've let the haters and bullies lead the political and moral conversation for far too long. The national dialogue has descended into a fusillade of hate from politicians, political operati...
What if 31 Shots Had Been Only 10?
Tue Jan. 11, 2011 3:00 AM PST Glock's "superior firepower" clip The Tucson shooter's killing frenzy finally came to an end on Saturday after he allegedly emptied his semiautomatic Glock Handgun of its 31 bullets. According to witness reports, as he was changing the clip, a wounded woman tried to grab the gun from him. His next shot jammed before two men wrestled him to the ground. Before 2004, when the Federal Assault Weapons Ban expired, the shooter never would have been able to get ...
Report: Killing united Islamic groups
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- The Assassination of a liberal Pakistani Governor, while condemned by some in the country, helped unite a number of Islamic groups, observers say. Last week's killing of Punjab Gov. Salman Taseer by his Security Guard, Mumtaz Qadri, and subsequent rallies showed the rising popularity of Radical Islam, The Washington Post reported. Qadri, who pleaded guilty in a Pakistani court Monday to killing Taseer, was lionized as a defender of Islam by a number of relig...
