Did you hear the joke about CNN sponsoring a Republican Presidential Candidate debate with the Tea Party as a partner? Well, it's not a joke.

According to Mother Jones, "Sam Feist, CNN's political director, says the arrangement was designed to give Undecided Voters a way to educate themselves about 'diverse perspectives within the Republican Party, including those of the Tea Party.' It's not the first time CNN has partnered with the group. E...

CNN-tea party debate raises eyebrows - Kenneth P. Vogel
They have some things in common – the need to rebound from recent woes, and to carve out identities against fierce competition – but CNN and the Tea Party Express would seem like unlikely Candidates for a partnership.
In fact, Friday’s announcement that they will co-host a Republican presidential debate for early September, 2011, in Tampa seems like a risky play for both.

After electoral wins, Tea Party movement now getting some respect from establishment
The Tea Party movement demonstrated its forcefulness on the national stage in November and now it's starting to get the kind of respect from the political establishment that just a few years ago would have been unthinkable for a Grassroots movement that wasn't liberal. Last week, U.S. Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia confirmed that he will be speaking to the Tea Party Caucus, a group within Congress for members who have or want to have affinities for the Tea Party movement. CNN is teaming up...

Read the full thing here.
“You have two political parties that are controlled by monied interests,” he argues. “You have a Corporate Media. When you talk about consolidation, you are talking about Oil and gas, banking, and perhaps most importantly, the media - where there are very few voices of dissent regarding our current position on the Global Economy. That gets to even the more fundamental issue - the health of American Democracy. Do people know what’s going on? And
Don't Believe The Hype: Mike Huckabee Is No Moderate
Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas Governor and 2008 Presidential Candidate, made quite an impression on liberals when he emerged onto the national scene a few years ago. They found the affable ex-Southern Baptist minister to be quite charming. It's probably not a surprise that even the most sophisticated liberal politicos were taken in. After so many years of being bloodied and degraded by right-wing pundits and politicians, finding one that didn't think liberals were fundamentally evil, stupid, or...
CNN will co-host presidential debate with PAC-affiliated "Tea Party" group
CNN will co-host a Republican presidential debate next year with the Tea Party Express, which is basically a PAC run by Republican political operatives. It is a slightly puzzling decision from a "basic standards of journalistic ethics" standpoint, although from a "desperation for attention and the participation of a bunch of Fox employees" standpoint it actually makes perfect sense.
CNN Political Director Sam Feist is excited for this opportunity to attempt to justify having a Republican campaig...

Tea Party and CNN to Host 2011 Republican Presidential Debate in Florida
CNN Political Director Sam Feist called the "Tea Party movement a fascinating, diverse, Grassroots force that already has drastically changed the country's political landscape." The movement's impact on the political balance is indisputable. Tea party-backed Candidates, assailing President Obama's policies and calling for smaller government and less spending, had considerable success in the Nov. 2 election. The tea party and allies like Sarah Palin can rightly claim credit for playing a signific...

Tea Party-CNN Debate Sparks Backlash From Some Conservatives
Politico:
"This is nothing more than a press stunt for CNN that cries out 'Pay attention to us!'," said Everett Wilkinson, an organizer with the South Florida Tea Party, who said there's been talk in tea party circles about protesting the debate, or even infiltrating it.

The 2012 Class Divide
by Patrick Appel
Ronald Brownstein splits the 2012 GOP Presidential Candidates into managers and Populists. He notes that Palin, the archetypal populist, takes the lion's share of the low-income non-college vote while Romney, the stereotypical managerial Candidate, overwhelming wins high-earning college grads. How the political environment might help determine the winner:
If the race focuses on hostility toward Washington, anger at elites in both parties, and tests of ideological pu...

News Corp-and Fox News-titan Rupert Murdoch may have a new British BFF: Mark Thompson , the director general of the BBC.
In an interview with The Guardian, Thompson says he and Murdoch share a belief that the U.K. would benefit from a strong-even “opinionated” news channel-and Murdoch told him “he would like Sky News to go down a polemical ‘Fox-style’ route-but…the editors of the channel had brushed off his wishes.”
