This Presidency is Lost
Back in April 2007 while George W. Bush was still in the White House and after the Democrats took control of the House and Senate, everyone remembers the four words Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) uttered regarding the Surge in Iraq that was championed by the Bush Administration. Senator Reid’s misguided and untruthful words were meant to undermine President George W. Bush’s authority and to force the American People to believe that the War in Iraq was indeed unwinnable and ...

Bill safeguards US-Aust nuclear pact
AFP
A member of Congress in the United States has introduced Legislation to safeguard a US-Australia nuclear co-operation deal, potentially threatened by a ticking US legislative clock.
Under US law, nuclear co-operation accords cannot go into effect before the end of a congressional review period set at 90 days of continuous session - a threshold that the current Congress may not reach, depending on the length of a year-end "Lame Duck" session.

Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio pledge to keep it nonpartisan when it comes to Florida
The state's two senators pledged Wednesday night at a Florida delegation party to work together on issues central to the state. Bill Nelson , a Democrat, noted a long tradition of different party senators working together on issues, dating to Democrat Bob Graham and Republican Connie Mack .
"It's important because there is a lot of stuff that comes before us that is not partisan," Nelson said, quickly adding, "Well, there's a lot of stuff that comes...
The Earmark Sideshow
It isn’t the Earmarks, stupid. Bullying Republican Senate leaders into a “voluntary” ban on Earmarks may represent a political triumph for the Tea Party Movement, but as a measure to reduce the federal Deficit it is a meaningless substitute for real action. The facts about earmarks—and the Deficit, for that matter—are so simple that even the dumbest Birther should be able to understand. Funds directed to specific projects by legislators—which is what earmark...
Senator Rockfeller Wants FCC To Say Goodbye To Fox and MSNBC (Video)
I wonder if he's ever heard of Freedom of Speech and freedom of the press? This is Rockefeller at a Senate hearing today, roll tape:
Rockefeller: " There’s a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to Fox and to MSNBC out-off-end-goodbye. It would be a big favor to political discourse and to our ability to do our work here in Congress and to the American People to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly in their future...
Saying Goodbye to Compassionate Conservatism
Will the Tea Party sell out for a mess of pottage in the form of a ban on Earmarks? That’s one possibility. But another is that this embrace of a purely symbolic approach to Deficit reduction is a sign that the Tea Party’s central goals may lie elsewhere—in an effort to push the Republican Party away from those aspects of George W. Bush’s legacy that tried to steer the Conservative Movement in a new direction. The real point may be to get the GOP to say goodbye to the ide...

2012 Preview: Mack Attacks Nelson
It looks like the Republican field against Florida Sen. Bill Nelson (D) in 2012 is growing. Rep. Connie Mack (R-Fla.) is the latest to enter the fray. Mack took the fight to Nelson in a Orlando Sentinel op-ed on Wednesday -- a clear sign that he is angling for a Senate run. Mack called on Nelson to support extending the Bush Tax Cuts. "Admitting he was wrong to oppose the Bush Tax Cuts in 2001 and 2003 would be a first step for U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson to signal he 'got the message' in the recen...
Mack bashes Nelson: First shot in U.S. Senate campaign
With the ascendancy of Republicans to every statewide office that was up for election this year, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelso n is the last Democrat standing. And as Mark K. Matthews wrote last week, Republicans are already jockeying to run against him. Among the known and presumed contenders: outgoing U.S. Sen. George LeMieu x, appointed last year to fill the remainder of Mel Martinez ‘ term; Senate President Mike Haridopolis of Merritt Island; U.S. Reps. Vern Buchanan of Sarasota and Tom Rooney ...
