Television Losing Ground to the Internet as a Main Source of News
Television remains the main source of national and international news for most Americans but it is steadily losing its lead over the Internet, according to a Pew Research Center poll conducted Dec. 1-5. The trend towards the Internet is particularly marked among 18-to-29 year olds who now favor it over television as their source for what's going on in the country and the world. Sixty-six percent of those surveyed said they get their dose of news from television compared to 41 percent who said th...
Gap closing between internet and TV news
The Internet has passed up Newspapers a few years back as the public’s main news source, and now it’s gaining on television.
While the trend itself isn’t news, new data from Pew shows that some new milestones in the journey have been reached:
In 2010, for the first time, the Internet has surpassed television as the main source of national and international news for people younger than 30. Since 2007, the number of 18 to 29 year olds citing the Internet as their main source ha...
After Slashing Through Newspapers, Internet News Eyes TV
If you were writing an obituary for newspaper, you would probably state that its fatal illness became critical in 2008. That year more people began preferring the Internet for news than Newspapers. In the two years since then, the distance between those who choose the online news over newspapers has widened to 10 points, according to a new report from Pew. But Internet isn't finished in its quest for news supremacy. Television may be the next traditional media source to fall, as its lead on Inte...

Political Success of the Next Two Years Depends on Who Controls the Message
They say, “the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.” For the past two years, that hand belonged to Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (CA) who wielded her power to control the Congressional agenda. Now, with the changing of the guard, an interesting new interplay will likely be afoot between the Executive and Legislative branches of the Federal Government. Even as the pendulum swings, there is little doubt, however, that the big winner ov...
The Onion comes to TV with news and sports spoofs
For nearly a quarter-century, The Onion has skewered the media with its satirical newspaper, then, starting in 1996, its website and, as of four years ago, the Onion News Network's online videos. Now it's poised to make a two-fisted assault from within the most fitting of targets: television. On Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. EST on Comedy Central, "Onion SportsDome" will begin its weekly swipe at TV sports coverage and commentary. Then on Jan. 21, at 10 p.m. EST on the IFC network, "Onion News Network" ...

PA gives cursing the go-ahead
"The ACLU of Pennsylvania says State Police have agreed to stop citing people for disorderly conduct when they use Profanity. Senior ACLU staff attorney Mary Catherine Roper says these citations are not unusual. “And that’s why we started bringing these cases,” she said. “Because we are finding that police all over Pennsylvania have been issuing criminal citations because people use Profanity.” Roper says the case that brought about the settlement involved a Luzerne...

Baldwin has said in the past he would consider running for office if the opportunity arose. "The answer is: Yes, it's something that I am very, very interested ...

What's up with Governor Chris Christie? (and behind the scenes!)
Last September I went to a charity event at the Governor's Mansion in New Jersey. The event was for Children with disabilities and it was wonderful. I enjoyed being part of the event to help the kids. (One of the best things about my job is that I get invited to these events -- the worst part of my job is that I can't do them all or that the charity events I want to support are on week nights and I work week nights.) At the event at the New Jersey Governor's Mansion, I was talk...

Since then he’s been spending time with his family, and easing back into his life. His first stop in town was for sushi with friends. H...
A Brighter Look at Milgram's Obedience Study
If the legitimacy of the state arises from the people's consent, then the prospects for a free society largely depend on the psychological processes of the individual members of society. That is to say, if people's psychological processes are designed for a social order in which there exists an institution that uses force to acquire resources and that monopolizes protection and defense to use Rothbard's description of the state -- then the prospects of a free society stand little chance. ...

Rick Scott Holds an Open House
On March 4, 1829, the newly inaugurated President Andrew Jackson held an open house event at the White House -- leading to a mob of around 20,000 celebrating his election and running “Old Hickory” out of his new home. While open house events at the White House ended during Grover Cleveland’s First Term, newly inaugurated Florida Governors continue to hold open houses in the governor’s mansion in Tallahassee. Thankfully Gov. Rick Scott’s open house event Tuesday was...

THE OPEN SOURCE VENTURE PROJECT (Picture This)
For those of you that haven't been following this blog: Some few of us have been working on a small project to test out some organizational and financial concepts that would enable the development of companies that work like the Internet. Work like the Internet? Here's what we mean: companies that are highly decentralized, open and egalitarian. This is in contrast to traditional corporate hierarchies that are secretive, centralized, and totalitar...
Economic Outlook: Downstream this
In Washington, the Federal Reserve said through released minutes of a Dec. 14 meeting it would press forward with its $600 billion long-term securities purchasing program, despite signs of rising Interest Rates, which is sure to slow borrowing, already one of the major crinkles of the Financial Meltdown. But isn't it more fun to talk about gadgets? Yes, at the Consumer Electronic Show just under way in Las Vegas, 3-D televisions are old news, but ESPN 3-D is set to announce its ESPN 3-D channel ...
Oprah Winfrey Network: Positive Reviews Come In For Oprahs New Venture
Now that we are just one day removed from the much buzzed about debut of Oprah Winfrey’s new network OWN, it’s time for the critical reviews to start rolling in. Already one critique is that the network is a “missed opportunity”, but some other early reviews are much more positive:
“OWN is a place where cynicism takes a holiday and mockery hasn’t yet been invented. . . . OWN isn’t for everyone . . . [b]ut it lives up to the Oprah Winfrey ethos — a ‘...
