The Cable Network saw its prime-time audience grow by 35% this year, according to Nielsen. History Channel, which is co-owned by Walt Disney Co., NBC Universal and Hearst Corp., averaged 1.6 million viewers in Prime Time. Its audience among adults 18-49 was up by 34%, to 754,000. Both were the biggest gains of any top 10 cable network. Of course, ...
CNN Becoming Irrelevant: Lowest Prime Time Ratings In 13 Years
Terry Jeffrey's Interview with Va. Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli on ObamaCare Lawsuit Is CNN becoming irrelevant? CNN’s woes worsened this year. Despite the somewhat bogus total reach-touting, the network hit Primetime Ratings lows (or at least going back to 1997, which is all we could dig up data for) for total viewers and viewers 25-54. A look at Tuesday's Prime Time numbers should give you an idea of just how terribly this Cable Network is doing. Right in the heart of CNN&...
Tonight's the night for Larry King as 25-year reign comes to an end
He is from another era of current affairs television and tonight that era will end. When the lights dim on his desk this evening, Larry King, the Primetime interview host for CNN for the last 25 years, will hang up his Trademark braces and cede his throne to the British talent show judge and former editor Piers Morgan. With Mr King, 76, will vanish an interviewing style that to some had become outdated long before now. You don't need a Jeremy Paxman when your guest is Jon Bon Jovi but arguably y...

The Fight of the Week: Condoleezza Rice knocks out Katie Couric in the first round
About the only time we watch HBO is for the fights, but much to our surprise we found out that the Cable Network has a series called “HBO History Makers.”
If this episode of the series - an interview with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and perky, Ratings-challenged news anchor Katie Couric - had been a fight, it would have been stopped in the first round.
Couric aske

David Gewirtz Appears on History Channel's "The President's Book of Secrets"
Other than that, well, I've been programming some interesting systems. I launched an experimental "AI Editor" which watches the news and categorizes information. Its first use was TrackYourCandidate.com, which tracks news on a Candidate-by-candidate basis. The code is still very experimental, but it allows us to follow news by looking at each individual, so if you wanted to see a dossier of Nancy Pelosi coverage, say, you could. I'm looking at using this technology to track other hotspots, lik...

CNN morning show loses Roberts, executive producer
NEW YORK – Troubled CNN is looking to give a facelift to its morning news show, seeking a more "upbeat" mix of stories and leaving anchor John Roberts behind in the process.
The network said Tuesday that Roberts, a former CBS News anchor, has left the show. Roberts is engaged to CNN anchor Kyra Phillips and has requested a reporting assignment that will take him closer to her home and the network's Atlanta base.
CNN also said the "American Morning" Executive Producer, Jamie Kraft, has le...
Syndicators Pitching Katie Couric on Daytime Talker...
As Katie Couric's contract with CBS News nears its end, multiple syndicators are approaching her about daytime possibilities, confirm several sources. Couric's $15 million annual contract with CBS News expires at the end of May. It's still too soon for her to begin negotiating with CBS, but the news anchor has begun considering her options should renewing her contract with CBS not pan out. Couric, who was The Today Show's star for 15 years, has long been considered the ideal Candidate for dayti...
CNNs Larry King exits after 25 years
NEW YORK (AP) — Larry King pulls down the curtain on his CNN Talk Show, “Larry King Live,” after 25 years Thursday, Cable Television’s once dominant voice now faded in a sea of sharp talkers. King, 77, said this summer he would “hang up his nightly suspenders,” ushered to the door by a struggling network. British talk-show host and “America’s Got Talent” judge Piers Morgan takes over the 9 p.m. Eastern time slot in January. Ryan Seacrest was ...
The last of 'Larry King Live'
Say what you will about Larry King — that he's a shameless softballer, that he's a selective listener, that he may not always understand who he's talking to and what they're saying — you have to admit the man has stamina. Even as his body seems to shrivel and his concentration appears to wane, he's been showing up for "Larry King Live," his five-nights-a-week, hourlong CNN interview program, for 25 years. Throughout it all — and, indeed, throughout his whole career, which began...
After 25 years, King is giving up his CNN throne
Early last June, CNN celebrated 25 years of "Larry King Live" with a week of shows whose A-list guests included President Barack Obama, LeBron James, Bill Gates and Lady GaGa. It was hyped to the hilt and suitably eventful, even as King and Lady Gaga regarded each other with the bemusement of a human encountering an alien life form. Then, at the end of June, King suddenly announced he was retiring from his show — a weeknight fixture at 9 p.m. Eastern since June 1, 1985. He told viewers, "I...

Bernie Sanders: Block the Comcast Takeover of NBC Universal, Would Create Anti-Competitive Media Monopoly
Warning that a huge media monopoly would drive up Cable Television prices and stifle the free flow of information, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today urged the Department of Justice to block Comcast's planned takeover of NBC Universal. The senator's concerns about the Comcast-NBC deal were detailed in a letter that he sent to Christine Varney, the assistant Attorney General in charge of the Antitrust division at the Department of Justice. "Especially in an age of entrenched corporate power...

Upton Wants FCC to Expedite Review of Comcast, NBC Merger
In a letter to Federal Communications Commission chairman Julius Genachowski dated December 10, U.S. Representative Fred Upton (R-MI) inquired into the FCC’s commitment to a fair, fact-driven review of the Comcast-NBC Universal Merger. The merger would call for the transfer of assets to a new Joint Venture for NBC Universal. The Joint Venture combines NBC and Telemundu as well as 26 NBC television stations and national Cable Networks with Comcast’s regional sports networks and ...
'Raising Hope' is full of chuckles thanks to funny Cloris Leachman
NEW YORK — "Vanity" is a word that seems missing from Cloris Leachman's play book.
This, of course, is no surprise to those who has savored this Veteran actress-comedian in her anything-but-self-admiring performances the past six decades. (Does snooty Phyllis Lindstrom on "The Mary Tyler Moore" and her own spinoff Sitcom ring a bell? Or Teutonic terror Frau Blucher in "Young Frankenstein"? Or Leachman's starkly non-comedic portrayal of a forlorn coach's wife in "The Last Pict...

'Yogi Bear' alternate ending creator: 'It seemed ripe for parody'
The Yogi Bear “alternate ending” video that took the Internet by storm yesterday is the handiwork of New York-based animator Edmund Earle, whose 3-D modeling and animation work can be seen on the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, and elsewhere. But when he saw the trailer for Yogi Bear, his attention turned to pic-a-nics. And … brutality. We caught up with Earle to ask him about Boo Boo, shotguns, and his rise to Viral Video fame. “This started in September, when th...

In surprise, RNC head Steele seeks another term
WASHINGTON — Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele launched a fight to keep his job Monday, stunning many in the party who had expected him to step aside.
His decision means Republicans will be debating the record of their first African-American chairman next month at the moment the new GOP-controlled House is being sworn in. Steele and Republican congressional leaders have been at odds in the past and a bruising internecine fight could become an unwelcome distraction.

Kaiser Health Tracking Poll
Seniors, generally more critical of the law than younger people, seem to be softening in their opposition as the national discussion shifts to the federal Budget and Deficit. The share of those aged 65 and up holding unfavorable views of health reform dropped to 40 percent in December, the lowest since the passage of the law. As the weak economy continues, the survey finds that a significant number of people are struggling to stay afloat financially. One in four say their household has had trou...
