Even if you're the dog of the president of the United States, you still need to follow the rules. As the Obama family slowly trickles into Hawaii for the holidays (the first lady and first daughters jetted there over the weekend, but the president remains in Washington until Congress wraps up its business), the first dog, who is making his first trip to the island, is subject to the state's quarantine program. (Gallery: Bo goes for a walk in the snow) The policy requires a veterinary exam upon ...
Bad Weather Could Dampen Obamas' Holiday
(FOXNews.com) - Legislative bickering in the lame-duck Congress is not the only thing that is likely to put a damper on the first family's Christmas Vacation -- Bad Weather in Hawaii may also get President Barack Obama's trip off to a less than ideal start, Fox News Channel reported Monday. Snow flurries and Flash Floods are not typically what vacationers in Hawaii expect to hear, but that was just what the National Weather Service (NWS) said about the Hawaiian Islands Monday. Forecasters were c...

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that Bo received two rabies vaccinations, an implanted electronic Microchip and had to have a blood test to ensure that he was rabies-free. Janelle Saneishi, spokeswoman for the State Department of Agriculture, told the newspaper tha...

Obama's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Year
Barack Obama's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year got off to a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad start. There he was, on New Year's Day, on Vacation with his family in Hawaii, stuck on a secure phone with Counterterrorism officials, trying to figure out what screw-ups had allowed a would-be Terrorist to board a Christmas Day flight with explosives in his underwear. The 44th-and-a-Half President of the United States
The Rally to Restore Sanity to How We Treat 9/11 Responders:
Paging Jon Stewart: The White House needs your help.
Robert Gibbs, President Obama’s press secretary, told reporters on Tuesday that he hopes the Comedy Central host can persuade enough Republican senators to vote for a 9/11 health bill so it can head to the president’s desk.
“If there's the ability for that to sort of break through in our political environment, there's a good chance that he can help...
Obama Tells Labor, I’m On Your Side
They gave him hundreds of millions of dollars for his campaign for president and for that Barack Obama has given Big Labor many, many payoffs, sweetheart deals, and regulatory favors. And this week he met in the White House with members of Big Labor and told them that he was sill on their side. Even with all the paybacks and special favors that Obama has given to the Unions in the fist half of his presidency, Big Labor is suspicious of his fealty and unhappy with his apparently insufficient leve...

Larry David: A Sarcastic "Thanks" for the Tax Cut
Larry David has an op-ed in the New York Times today expressing gratitude for the just passed Tax Cut Compromise --- which will extend the breaks for upper income earners like him. He writes, "To begin with, I was planning a trip to Cabo with my kids for Christmas Vacation. We were going to fly coach, but now with the money I’m saving in taxes, I’m going to splurge and bump myself up to first class. First class! Somebody told me they serve warm nuts up there, and call you “...
Signing Off for Christmas (On a Note of Optimism)
Before I take a break, my new column for the Financial Times aims for a note of cautious economic optimism. To begin with, as you know, I see the tax deal as good news... The revenue cost of the tax deal is more than $800bn over the next two years, prompting commentators to call it an even bigger stimulus than the fiscal plan adopted in 2009. This is nonsense. Almost all of the forgone revenue is due to the extension of Tax Rates and other measures already in place. Measured against a current-po...
Hawaiian Surfer Leaves Paradise to Join the Israeli Army
With all the reports in the news about how self-indulgent our youth have become, here’s the story of a young man (a U.S. citizen) who is leaving a comfortable life in Hawaii for a more vigorous life in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Hundreds of thousands of Americans make a similar decision every year when they join the U.S. Armed Forces. This struck me as a particularly interesting story. An excerpt: Barak Argov, 19, the son of an Israeli father and an American ...
